Nick Brown is an attorney, public servant, military veteran, and civic leader who currently serves as the Attorney General for the State of Washington. Throughout his career, he has dedicated himself to protecting the public, advancing justice, and strengthening communities through leadership in government, law, and public service. He became Washington's 19th Attorney General in 2025 and is the first Black person elected to serve in the role. A graduate of Morehouse College and Harvard Law School, Nick began his legal career in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps, serving as both a prosecutor and defense attorney. His military service included a deployment to Iraq, where he earned the Bronze Star for his leadership and dedication. After returning to Washington, Nick served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Washington before becoming General Counsel to Governor Jay Inslee. In that role, he advised the governor on significant legal and policy matters affecting the state. He later served as the United States Attorney for the Western District of Washington after being nominated by President Joe Biden, leading federal efforts to combat violent crime, drug trafficking, hate crimes, and human trafficking while promoting civil rights and public safety. Known for his thoughtful leadership, commitment to public service, and dedication to equal justice under the law, Nick has built a career focused on protecting the rights of individuals and strengthening public trust in government institutions. His work reflects a belief that effective leadership combines accountability, integrity, and a commitment to serving others. As Attorney General, Nick continues to advocate for consumer protection, civil rights, public safety, and the rule of law while serving as the chief legal officer for the State of Washington.
